Projects
Alongside regular maintenance, there are always projects that need skills and funding to improve our park. Here are some of the projects Friends of Betts Park are currently working on:

Secret Garden
We're creating a Community Garden on the site of an abandoned depot in the corner of Betts Park. The dream is to create a space where locals can come together to share horticulture and tea. We need physical labour to prepare the site, tools, plants, structures and funding.

Outdoor Gym
The free gym is enormously popular, getting around 1,000 uses per month. It's coming to the end of it's life, and parts for repairs are no longer available. It will cost around £70,000 to replace and improve - so far we have raised about half of this. We need help fundraising.

Croydon Canal
The only remaining piece of canal in South London. As well as historical significance, it's a wildlife haven, and provides important water drainage for Anerley Hill. It needs re-wilding to improve water quality and refurbishment to highlight the heritage. We need a long-term plan to apply for funding.

Mitre Gate Entrance
The King George V memorial gates joining Betts Park to Croydon Road were removed before the old pub was demolished. We need to get them refurbished and repaired ready to install when this entrance is finally redesigned and reopened. We need to find the gates, cost repairs, and draw-up plans for a new entrance way.

Everything Else
The skate park ramps need replacing, the playground equipment needs upgrading, basketball hoops need re-netting, benches need refurbishing or replacing - it takes time to organise and needs funding from different sources. What's close to your heart? What project could you fund, or manage? What would you like to do? Email us to get involved.
